Suicidal man causes serious collision on Highway 280

Sometimes people make bad choices that impact the people around them without considering the implications. For instance, if a driver gets behind the wheel while drunk, he or she might not be thinking about what would happen if he gets into an accident. The same is true in this case involving a man who must have been depressed at the time of the accident.

A man involved in a serious crash on Highway 280 has told police that he caused the accident on purpose. The July 27 news reports that the man is a 30-year-old from Horse Shoe; he suffered broken legs and injuries to his pelvis in the collision.

What happened? The man allegedly wanted to commit suicide, so he slammed his SUV into a dump truck. It hit the corner of the truck head-on, leading to the man being seriously injured. The driver of the dump truck was reportedly uninjured and had tried to avoid the SUV before the crash, but he was unable to move his vehicle in time.

The 30-year-old man did survive, and he will likely be charged, according to police. He faces potential charges for reckless driving and for driving left of center. Had he hit the truck or other drivers, the outcome of this situation could have been much different.

If you're involved in a crash with a truck driver who collides with you or another driver who decides to cause an accident, you have the right, as a victim, to take steps to seek compensation. You should not have to pay for the damages or injuries that occurred.
